ARSENIC ARCH
Below the rim of a remote canyon outside Hanksville, Utah is a hanging valley. At one end of the valley is perched the small but scenic Arsenic Arch.
METATE ARCH
There are many unique destinations within Escalante National Monument--with many of them located along Hole-In-The-Rock Road. Most sites require hikes of varying length, but the Devil's Garden rock formations are a drive-up destination. Metate Arch is just one of many oddly shaped petrified dunes within the Devil's Garden.
MESA ARCH
At sunrise, the light bounces up off the cliffs and causes Mesa Arch to glow red with the morning sun.
CROWDS AT MESA ARCH
Located in the Island in the Sky district of Canyonlands National Park, Mesa Arch is located perfectly for an early morning photo session. Large crowds of photographers congregate well before sunrise to stake out their spot and hope for a good sunrise. I hiked in early just to find this crowd had beaten me to the spot. I simply said "excuse me"--stepped in front--took my shot and backed away before rioting began.
DEVIL'S GARDEN
Along Hole-In-The-Rock Road, Devil's Garden has many places to explore among the rocks. The most obvious formations within the garden are a number of "figures" that stand out above the rest.
FALLEN ROOF RUIN
Cedar Mesa is a large wooded area in southeastern Utah full of canyons. Tucked under cliff faces within the mesa are many Puebloan artifacts. The Fallen Roof Ruin is one of the most striking of these artifacts. It can be accessed after adventuring down into a remote canyon from a trailhead located off UT-261.
SQUARE TOWER RUIN
Located in Mesa Verde National Park, the Square Tower Ruin can be viewed but not visited. Some of the other ruins are accessible by tour.
TOWER ARCH
Tower Arch is located in an isolated corner of Arches National Park. If you're up for a bit of a drive down a gravel road followed by a couple of miles hiking, you may discover this impressive arch and have it all to yourself. There are several rock "towers" behind the arch, which give this arch it's name.
